December 2023

Spreading Joy and Making a Difference

Donations for UpsideDown Moments

December was a month filled with heartwarming moments and festive cheer at UpsideDown Moments! In our commitment to spreading joy and support, we hosted three impactful holiday and gifting events, reaching out to foster families, young adults transitioning from foster care, and the students of Sterling Middle School. The generosity of our community shone brightly as numerous individuals contributed toys and gifts through our Amazon Wishlist and direct donations. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the organizations that collaborated with us and the dedicated volunteers who selflessly invested their time to make the holidays extraordinary for children in need. Together, we created moments that truly made a difference. Thank you for being a part of our mission to bring joy and support to those who need it most.

UpsideDown Moments Volunteers

Tami Urbina, former board member of UpsideDown Moments

This month, we are thrilled to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of our incredible volunteers at UpsideDown Moments, collectively earning the title of Volunteer of the Month. Their unwavering dedication and selfless contributions in various capacities have illuminated the holiday season for children in foster care, youth aging out of the foster system, and at-risk youth. Whether organizing events, participating in donation drives, mentoring, or spreading joy in different locations, each volunteer has played a vital role in making this season truly special. Their combined efforts form a tapestry of compassion, weaving warmth and hope into the lives of those we serve. To our remarkable volunteers: you are the heart of UpsideDown Moments, and we are profoundly grateful for the positive impact you continue to make in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for embodying the spirit of generosity and kindness throughout this festive season!

UpsideDown Moments Gift Drive for Sterling Middle School

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, a collective effort unfolded to bring holiday cheer to the students of Sterling Middle School. With boundless generosity, community members joined forces to donate various gifts, mostly through our Amazon Wishlist. The outpouring of support didn't stop there—volunteers organized the meticulous task of transporting, sorting, and wrapping the gifts with care and precision. It was a harmonious symphony of kindness and coordination, ensuring that every student would feel the warmth and joy of the season. This remarkable collaboration showcased the strength of a united community, dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of these students and fostering a sense of togetherness during the holiday season.

Free Holiday Shop Event

Thank you to the organizations and volunteers that participated!

We had a successful collaboration with incredible organizations to host a special event – the Free Shop for youth who have aged out of foster care and are now parents themselves!

A huge shoutout to 7x24 Exchange International for their generous contributions through the Holiday Toy Drive, ensuring that there will be smiles and joy this holiday season for these young parents and their children.

A special thank you to Loudoun School for Advanced Studies for opening up their beautiful space to set up the Free Shop. Your generosity provided the perfect setting for this meaningful event.

And let's hear it for the amazing students and staff at John Champe High School, who volunteered to wrap the selected gifts. Your support and kindness are making a lasting impact on these young families.

Cheers to the power of community collaboration and spreading love during this festive season!

UpsideDown Moments is overjoyed to share the heartwarming success of our co-hosted Foster Care Holiday Party at The Branch in Leesburg! The collaborative effort between Loudoun DFS, UpsideDown Moments, 7x24, and Project Belong volunteers resulted in an event that was nothing short of magical. Together, we meticulously planned every detail, ensuring an evening filled with laughter, connection, and holiday spirit.

The generosity continued with gifts provided by UpsideDown Moments, Project Belong, and the incredible Donna Howell. These gifts allowed the children in foster care to free-shop and choose the presents they would like to give to others.
